Sometimes, rather than go with the natural shape of the wood, I make a shape out of it. The top and base of Lila echo each other in their rather obvious attempt at a heart shape. Lila’s base is spalted maple, her column is basswood, and her top is cherry. Whatever you put on Lila, she can handle, but it’s obvious she’s inclined to something small and elegant.
